  34.     I recently got a GUS MAX and everything works OK in Windows
  35. EXCEPT when I play back .AVI files in Microsoft Video for Windows
  36. the video is really choppy but the audio is normal.  It didn't do this
  37. when I had my old ATI F/X 8-bit card.  Any ideas?

  58.     In a past message someone said that they had a problem with DOOM 
  59. 2 working on their GUS. And also Heritic i think.
  60.     Those problems are not a problem with you GUS, just a problem 
  61. with DOOM operating system v.1.666. Which (i believe) is used in both 
  62. DOOM 2 and HEritic. The simple way to fix it is to run the game with a 
  63. command line pramater of -GUS1 or -GUS2 . The second works for me.

  83. The gus works GREAT with the latest version of band in a box for windows. It 
  84. finally does patch caching just fine. Make sure you ask for the absolute 
  85. latest  version. i think it's version 6.03.

  117. Jason: That was the first topic question I posted to this group about 4 
  118. months ago. Unfortunatly, no one came up with any intelligent answers, 
  119. but after contacting Peter Gannon at PG MUSIC, here is the scoop.

  121. Band-in-a-Box has always worked with the GUS but it didn't support sample 
  122. caching. 
  123.  
  124. The latest windows version advertised is 6.0.  BUT, you need 6.3 which 
  125. supports the sample caching. 
  126.  
  127. So the bottom line is that if you get Band-in-a-Box for Windows Version 
  128. _6.3_, you will love it as much as I do.

  139.   This is not a tech support question, but I think the point I have to
  140.   bring up is quite interesting.  Those who follow the newsgroup comp.
  141.   sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.advocacy may have noticed the =AB=AB=ABIs there a GUS
  142.   emulator for the AWE32?=BB=BB=BB thread.   I doubt one exists, but if such
  143.   an emulator were to exist the GUS would have its greatest victory.

  183. I've got the game as well and it doesn't work with my GUS either, but 
  184. System Shock however works fine with me !!!!

  186. Anyway i've got another question for y'all : I've recently installed WARP
  187. on my PC and I'm trying to get GUS to run with OS\2 but it doesn't...huh?
  188. I've tried the manley drivers (v0.6e) and also the alpha drivers from 
  189. Gravis, and still n'thing.
  190. Is it because I have 2 soundcards in my PC????

  192. - AMD DX266Mhz
  193. - 16Mb mem
  194. - 3xi NEC CD-ROM drive
  195. - Hercules Stingray videocard
  196. - GUS with 1Mb
  197. - Trust Sound expert deluxe 16-bit ( SB-PRO comp. )

  199. Anyway when I  select SB PRO  in os\2 it works just fine, But I've got to 
  200. start the drivers in DOS first, then reset and then run os\2.
  201. If I start OS\2 WITHOUT starting DOS first and then reset, Os\2 doesn't 
  202. "see" MY sbPro comp. What is the cause of all this trouble??? Please help 
  203. me with this one, but on the whole I'm very satisfied with my GUS

  221. Just a thought, but have you tried setting your GUS sound buffers in 
  222. Control Panel to as low as possible?  I did that, and it cleared up 
  223. all my Windows AVI video problems.  It does seem to have an adverse 
  224. effect on some other audio though.  Ho hum.

  284. I had this same problem on a Pentium90 (Neptune chipset, working NMI).
  285. What finally solved it was upgrading ultmport.drv (may be spelling this wrong) -
  286. a new version appears in the new 3.59 set of drivers on epas.  (Note the old
  287. 3.56 drivers will probably work if you turn off your CPU cache, implying a
  288. timing problem which seems to be fixed with the new driver, but then why buy a
  289. Pentium?)

  298. I noticed that the Capricorn motherboard using the Nexgen Nx586-90
  299. recently became available for much less than a Pentium 90. It's got
  300. an ISA and VL bus. Has anyone used one of these successfully with a
  301. GUS board? If you have, I'd also be interested in your general 
  302. impressions of the board and whether it's worth the risk of going 
  303. with bleeding-edge technology.

  318. It will work fine. The GUS plays little or no part in playing Audio
  319. CDs. The player program (e.g. Media Player in Windows, or various DOS
  320. utilities) just tells the CD player to start playing, which it will
  321. then do with no further intervention - of course the software may
  322. want to keep tabs on the current position of the disk, so as to display
  323. time remaining etc.
  324.  
  325. While playing, the CD drive is sending an audio signal out via the
  326. headphone socket on the front, and via an audio connector at the
  327. back. If you want to route the sound via the GUS, so that it emerges
  328. from the GUS line/amplified out, then you connect the CD audio out
  329. pins to the CD audio in pins on the GUS. Getting the right cable
  330. can be difficult - you need four wires at the GUS end (LGGR), and
  331. either 4 or 3 at the CD end.
  332.  
  333. You would still need this arrangement even if the CD drive was
  334. driven via an interface on the GUS, or a daughtercard.

  350. If you mean to play the CD output trough the GUS the answer is YES.
  351. You just have to find a cable to connect the line-out of the CD-Rom with the
  352. CD-in on your GUS. Thats all.. ;-) All the controll commands are sent trough
  353. the SCSI Bus and the audio output is independent of that.

  355. If you buy an external CD-Rom, because you don't have any more free space in
  356. your super mini baby desktop case ;-), it gets a bit tricky.
  357. In that case it's  better just to hook the CD-Rom to your stereo (or BoomBox
  358. or whatever you call it....), because external drives normally have standard
  359. chinch plugs.

  394.   I've got a problem with my Gravis Max. When I record sounds
  395. with a mike (using programs like Ultrasound Studio or other
  396. similars for Windows), after record a few seconds, the program
  397. access to the hard disk and all that i'm recording in this
  398. moment hasn't been recorded. The worse is that sometimes it
  399. makes me crossed links in the FAT, and when i repair them
  400. with Scandisk, some programs don't run. First I thought that
  401. it was a virus, but it isn't, because i ran the best antivirus,
  402. and it only happens recording sounds. I used Defrag, but it
  403. didn't nothing. I tried to start without emm386, but nothing.
  404.   I've got an i486 Dx2-66, 8 Mb Ram, 420HD Conner, Trident PCI,
  405. and disk controller VLB, with 1994 Award Bios.... What can I do?

  424. told to use the 32 bit drivers calle GAIL???.ZIP.  I have looked high and

  446. Well, I went to the computer store, and i looked at a copy of System 
  447. Shock. IT said it had UltraSound Support (which I was happy since the WC3 
  448. support works flawlessly) and I was happy. Next to it I found the CD-ROM 
  449. version, enhanced! I said, yeah, I have a CD-ROM, why not! So I picked on 
  450. up. I'm sure you all know that the CD-Rom version does not contain 
  451. UltraSound Support. Why is this? and also, in the manual it said 
  452. somehting about a patch coming out soon for Support. is this out yet?
